Don’t waste energy looking for food. You can live weeks without food. So it’s best not to expend water looking for food.
If you're stuck in the desert, but you have a vehicle, don’t leave the vehicle. It can provide shade during the days from the sun and at night from the cold. It’s also easier to spot your car if someone is looking for you.

If you don’t have a car, then only walk at night when it’s colder, and the sun is not out.
Look for water on the north side of canyons, gullies, or big rocks. Seeing insects is also a good sign that water is close by.
Watch for poisonous snakes, scorpions, spiders, and other insects. They will be attracted to your body heat at night. So keep your shirt tucked in, pants tucked into your socks, and sleep as high off the ground as possible.
At night lay out your jacket or tarps to collect whatever dew you can and drink it.
Don’t drink from cactus, the fluid inside will make you noxious, and it’ll make you vomit. It only works in the movies.
Don’t drink your urine. It is a concentrated waste, and drinking it will dehydrate you further. When you're dehydrated, the urine you produce is more concentrated than usual with waste and cause you more harm. Yes, it is sterile, but the waste built up in it can cause kidney damage.
Be careful with dust storms they can kill you. If you see clouds of dust moving towards you, take shelter by a large rock or anything sticking out of the ground. Cover your eyes, mouth, and nose with a fabric.
